Sony has handed Vita development kits to a number of key studios for a “significant launch window line-upâ€, Develop has heard.
It was claimed earlier in the year that developers were shown the device, and Sony has since sent out dev kits to numerous development studios – both third-party and in-house.
Multiple industry sources – who have over the last two months spoken to Develop on the matter – give the impression that Sony is spreading its Vita tech widely across the industry for a big impact at launch.
Develop’s sources were understandably unwilling to speak on the record about the new handheld, mentioning the device in passing, and declining to provide details on prototypes.
Around the time of the Tokyo Game Show, Sony held a private meeting at its offices in Tokyo's Aoyama. The purpose was to show off the PSP2.
Several sources have confirmed to Kotaku that the PSP2 does have a previously rumored touch panel on the back of the hardware. The touch panel was described as looking like a big mouse trackpad.
The screen itself is not only sharper than the current PSP's, but about an inch larger. The larger screen means that the PSP2 will be larger as well. In the private meetings, Sony is touting the screen as "HD".
Currently, the PSP2's hardware is not finalized, and Sony is having problems balancing battery, power and heat. There are apparently overheating issues, but Sony is, of course, aiming to have those issues corrected by the time the hardware is publicly shown.
Sources tell Kotaku that the PSP2's release window is fall 2011.
Dat touchpad op de achterkant duidt dan volgens mij op de aanwezigheid van een 3D scherm a la 3DS. Anders had Sony volgens mij wel gekozen voor een standaard multi-touchscreen. Toch?
Groter scherm en HD is natuurlijk altijd lekker. Zo lang het maar niet ten koste gaat van de batterijduur, laadtijden en de verkoopprijs.
Opzich niet verkeerd om een touch-screen/trackpad aan de achterkant te doen. Dan zit je in ieder geval niet de hele tijd met je vingers voor je eigen beeld te kloten, waardoor je de helft niet meer ziet. Of het echter lekker gaat werken valt nog te zien...

Is idd niet de PSP2. Ik denk zelf dat het de markt van de PSP, PSX-games en Minis nu beter invult. Wij gamers mogen eind 2011 gewoon aan de slag met de PSP2.
Als dit niet fake is en het is ook geen PSP2, dan vraag me ik wel af hoe Sony dit ding in de markt gaat zetten. Het is overduidelijk een telefoon met de nadruk op gaming. Een soort N-Gage dus.
Maar als het geen PSP is, maar een Android/Win7mob phone, waarom zitten er dan wel PlayStation knoppen op het toestel? Die zouden namelijk behoorlijk overbodig zijn in bijv Android games.
Engadget is doorgaans redelijk betrouwbaar. Waren volgens mij ook de eerste met die uitgelekte iPhone 4G vorig jaar.
Snap Sony Ericsson echt niet, waarom die lelijke chrome knoppen op de voorkant. Daarnaast, waarom voluit Sony Ericsson schrijven, zet gewoon het beeldlogo op de voorkant...
Het design is bij veel telefonen gewoon veel te kitsch.
Touch pad met twee puntjes lijkt me een goede vervanger voor de analoge sticks, op deze manier kan het ding makkelijk open en dicht sliden. Ik vermoed dat dit echt is, maar of er ook nog een PSP2 naast dit ding komt, dat betwijfel ik...
Maar why the hell die "S" in het midden? En waarom staat er geen PS-logo op terwijl het toch duidelijk de X, O, vierkant en driehoek-symbolen gebruikt?
