  2. Amy (PSN)

Re: Amy (PSN)

    Btw, IGN strikes again…

9/6/11 - "Amy is Ico With Zombies and It's Totally Brilliant", http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/117/1174898p1.html

11/1/12 Review-"the worst game I've played in recent memory"
    http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/121/1216343p1.html

  • Public service announcement: Do not buy AMY today

Rare is the occasion where I feel I have to "spoil" my review before it goes live, but I feel it's my civic duty to warn you not to buy AMY on Xbox Live today. Despite very promising trailers and details, it turns out that AMY is already a shoe-in for the worst game of the year.

I could talk about the fact that AMY's sparsely spread checkpoints do not save your game progress (it only saves by chapter and there are five chapters), I could talk about the controls that make characters stick to walls and random bits of floor, I could talk about stealth gameplay that appears to be inspired by Vampire f*cking Rain … but I don't want to just write the entire review here.

Basically, imagine everything you hated about survival horror, minus anything you might have loved. That's AMY. It would crush my soul to think of anybody purchasing this, because it is, as far as I'm concerned, outright theft to charge $10 for this.

A review will come once I find a way to fight through this horrific joke of a game. In the meantime, you can download the trial and see it for yourself. The one good thing I can say about AMY is that even the introductory cutscene is a stuttering load of poorly animated shit, so at least it's not trying to completely fool you.

As you can see, Amy is not about giving you huge power against enemies and giving players an action-oriented experience. Amy goes back to the roots of the survival-horror genre, and provides edge-of-your-seat suspense that will keep you wondering what’s around the next corner.
While most games in the genre choose to either be action- or combat-based, or instill fear by making players feel vastly less powerful than their enemies, Amy combines the best of both worlds. Paul Cuisset, the man behind Amy (and classic games such as Flashback), wanted to a new dimension, which is the cooperation between Amy and Lana.
Playing as Lana, you will have to decide whether you want to hide and avoid combat, or fight by using whatever weapons you can find. As highlighted in the last video, you can use Lana’s vulnerability to the infection to walk amongst enemies undetected, or use Amy’s special abilities, which you can see a glimpse of at the end of this video.
This makes you consider many options before trying to fight: hiding, asking Amy to go away, or using her special powers to defeat your opponents. But as we like to encourage players to exercise their right to choose, if you want to fight, go ahead and try. You won’t always be able to win, but those who don’t try will never know…

Serieus, waarom krijgt deze game 0,0 aandacht? It's a fucking shame :O

You may know French game designer Paul Cuisset from what is widely considered his masterwork, Flashback, an adventure game released by Delphine Software in 1992. You might also know him from his work on what is widely considered to be a really bad game … Shaq Fu. Cuisset is no doubt hoping that his latest project, a PSN-exclusive action game called Amy, has little in common with the latter.

In development at VectorCell, a sub-division of Flash and mobile game company Lexis Num̩rique, the planned Q2 2011 title, as described by UK site Electronic Theatre, stars a female protagonist named Lana (not Amy Рtwist!), who, along with a young girl named Amy (ah, there we go), must escape from the fictional Silver City. The town's been struck by a meteorite and has, as a result, become overrun by mutated humans Рand the special forces battling them.

The synopsis sounds like the makings of a survival-horror game, but no actual gameplay specifics have been detailed. Still, we're intrigued to see what Cuisset can do with what could easily be just another zombie game concept.
  • Amy got Shaq-Fucked
