1. Colin McRae: DiRT 3

Re: Colin McRae: DiRT 3

Eurogamer:

An online suite of rallycross and staggered point-to-point events caters for the multiplayer side, and it's bolstered by the addition of two-player split-screen that is sturdy while staying largely faithful to DiRT 3's glorious visuals. The DC Compound is home to some of the more outlandish multiplayer modes: there are four-wheeled takes on online staples such as Capture the Flag, and there's even room for a game of zombie-themed tag that's in keeping with the gaming trend that refuses to shuffle off and die. They're sideshows, admittedly, but they're sideshows that are agreeably bawdy and riotous.

And for the main event, Codemasters has succeeded in curating another superlative festival of driving. It’s a package more inclusive than any of its predecessors, shot through with the quiet innovations that have defined the studio’s more recent efforts. With its off-road events celebrating the series’ past and Gymkhana presenting a potentially bright new future, it’s another great racing game from an outfit that’s proving itself to be a master of its craft.

In Dirt 3 a few scratches tarnish an otherwise impeccable product. It’s a superb racing experience and shouldn’t be missed. While the agent isn’t the best leader through the tour, and the garage is limited in its operation, the solid gameplay, variety of tracks and events, and overall fun factor make this a terrific game.

8.0
Presentation
The hype team is lacking, but the menu design and abundance of options are great.

9.0
Graphics
From sunsets to snow flurries, Dirt 3 looks beautiful.

8.5
Sound
Details like the crunching of packed snow and skidding onto tarmac sound solid. The voice acting is boring, though.

9.0
Gameplay
The racing is tight and the variety of events, from rally to Gymkhana, are a lot of fun.

8.5
Lasting Appeal
The tour mode provides a huge number of events and multiplayer extends the life of all modes.

Muziek is vrij subliem.

    The Good
    - New event types add even more variety to both solo and multiplayer sessions
    - Difficulty and assist options cater to new and experienced drivers alike
    - Cars, buggies, and trucks all look great and handle superbly
    - Fantastic presentation
    - Supports both online and split-screen multiplayer

    The Bad
    - YouTube functionality is limited

Dirt 3 improves and builds upon its superb predecessor at just about every opportunity. The new multiplayer modes and gymkhana events are great additions, and if you're interested primarily in traditional racing disciplines, it has more than twice as many routes to race in more varied weather conditions and in an even greater selection of vehicles. The option to upload replays to YouTube isn't as exciting as it could be, given that you're limited to 30 seconds and there's no other way to save them, but this is a small blemish in an otherwise superb game. Whether you're a veteran of the Dirt series and the long-running Colin McRae Rally series that preceded it, or someone looking for a way into off-road racing, Dirt 3 is the game you should be playing.
