  • spring 11 of 12? wat is het nou joh
  • Getekende poppetjes …

Yoshitaka Amano, famous for his illustrations and character designs featured in the Final Fantasy series and many other games/anime, announced that his film directorial debut Deva Zan will release worldwide in Spring 2012.

The animated film, which Amano concepted a decade ago and has been developing since, is "set after the Jinshō (Buddhist divine generals) were defeated by darkness and became lost in time," according to a report from Anime News Network.

Zan, the amnesiac samurai lending his name to the movie title, gathers a group of fellow soldiers who can cross through time and space to fight against "the legions of darkness."

Deva Zan, the film directorial debut of Final Fantasy and Science Ninja Team Gatchaman illustrator Yoshitaka Amano, will open simultaneously worldwide in the spring of 2012. Amano revealed at a Tuesday press conference that he wanted to put Asian myths on film so that not only Japanese people will learn about them, but also people overseas. In addition to being the director, Amano created the concept a decade ago and has been developing the project ever since.

Story is set after the Jinshō (Buddhist divine generals) were defeated by darkness and became lost in time. After the world descended into chaos, Zan, a samurai with no memories, discovers his calling and assembles fellow soldiers who can cross through time and space. Together, they take on the legions of darkness.

Amano first revealed his project with a three-meter-long (about 10-foot-long) black feline statue last fall. He first displayed the statue at the Opéra de Paris (Palais Garnier) in France, and then he placed the statue at an unmanned exhibit space at the Tokyo International Anime Fair 2010 this past March. The statue depicts the steel beast named Panther that becomes the partner of the film's title character Zan.

The Sports Hochi newspaper reported in April that the film would have a worldwide release next year, before Amano confirmed the latest release date. However, a simultaneous worldwide release was not announced until Tuesday.

The multilingual official website for Deva Zan project launched last week, and more details about the project will be posted on Wednesday.
